Perform Advanced Rigging Operations

Definition:
Rigging is work involving the use of mechanical load shifting equipment and associated gear to move, place or secure a load including plant, equipment or members of a building or structure and to ensure the stability of those members and the setting-up and dismantling of cranes and hoists.
Course Objective:
This course is designed to provide trainees with the structured training component that, in conjunction with sufficient verifiable practical experience, will prepare students for assessment in the prescribed occupation of Advanced Rigging (license code RA).
Course Prerequisite:
Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions and must be at least 18 years of age. The participant needs to be able to work at height and perform physical tasks. The participants must also hold a current certificate of competency in Intermediate Rigging.
Course Content: 32 hours Training
40 hours (including a minimum of 8 hours practical training) will cover:
• Plan and prepare to perform operation of works associated with advanced rigging;
• Assessment and control, in the correct priority, of all occupational health and safety issues associated with advanced rigging and associated equipment;
• Understanding all relevant obligations, requirements and responsibilities as well as concepts of a duty of care associated with advanced rigging and associated equipment;
• Inspection and appropriate repair and alteration of lifting gear and personal protective equipment;
• Performance of works associated with advanced rigging in accordance with all relevant standards, legislative requirements and industry codes of practice pertinent to the area of works.
• Movement of plant and equipment necessary to perform advanced rigging work, steel erection and dual lifts.
The 40 hours will also include the completion of the theory assessment only; no practical assessment.
Assessment:
Participants will be required to successfully complete a written and practical examination to be deemed competent.
This will be conducted over approximately 8 hours and consist of:
• A theory examination consisting of 100 questions;
• A written assignment consisting of 8 tasks;
• A performance test consisting of 3 practice exercises and 1 of 3 electives.
A performance test will be carried out only after 40 hours of practical, on the job, experience under the supervision of a licensed person has been completed and recorded. This experience must be completed in line with a training plan which has been developed between the employer and trainee.
Each of the three (3) assessments is “closed book” and has a 100% pass mark.
