Definition of Scaffolding:
The erection, alteration or dismantling of a temporary structure, specifically erected to support platforms.
Course Objective:
This course is designed to provide trainees with the structured training component that, in conjunction with sufficient verifiable practical experience, will prepare students for assessment in the prescribed occupation of Advanced Scaffolding (license code SA).
Course Prerequisite:
Participants must hold an OH&S licence for Intermediate Scaffold and be physically able to climb stairs and lift objects with a weight of 20kg over their head.
Course Content:
40 hours (including a minimum of 8 hours practical training) will cover:
The planning and preparation necessary to the performance of works associated with advanced scaffolding such as suspended scaffolds and swinging stages;
The assessment and control, in the correct priority, of all occupational health and safety issues associated with scaffolding and associated equipment;
Understanding all relevant obligations, requirements and responsibilities as well as concepts of the duty of care associated with scaffolding and associated equipment;
The inspection of scaffold equipment to Australian Standards;
The performance of works associated with scaffolding in accordance with all relevant standards, legislative requirements and industry codes of practice pertinent to the area of works.
The 40 hours will also include the completion of the theory assessment only; no practical assessment.
Assessment:
Participants will be required to successfully complete 2 written exams and a practical examination to be deemed competent.
This will be conducted over approximately 8 hours and consist of:
A theory examination consisting of 76 questions;
A written assignment consisting of 3 tasks;
A practical assessment consisting of 8 areas of competency;
A performance test will be carried out only after 40 hours of practical, on the job, experience under the supervision of a licensed person has been completed and recorded in a log book. This experience must be completed in line with a training plan which has been developed between the employer and trainee and must map to the above unit of competency.
Each of the three (3) assessments is “closed book” and has a 100% pass mark.
