Course Objective:

The aim of this training product is to provide the skills and knowledge to operate an array of cranes the first module was designed to introduce participants to the principles of cranes and how they operate. Thereafter, the participants selects the elective that they require practical training in, it is recommended on the completion of the electives they gain further experience before, attempting other electives.  The training program provides theory and practical training in the following areas:

  • Plan and prepare to perform operations of the crane in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Apply legislation and all relevant obligations, requirements and responsibilities as well as concepts of a duty of care associated with the operation of cranes.
  • Assess all health and safety issues associated with the operation of cranes.
  • Control in the correct priority all occupational health and safety issues.
  • Apply the procedures associated with the assessment of hazards
  • Apply basic risk management concepts including the identification, assessment, control and evaluation of control measures.
  • Understand the hierarchy of controls (eliminate, substitute, isolate, administrate and personal protective equipment).
  • Inspect to determine safe usage of all equipment.

Course Prerequisite:

Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions. The participant needs to a have had previous experience on a building site and must have a current certificate in Dogging.

Course Content: Nominal Hours - 304.
 
This course consists of 6 units (one core unit and five electives) and participants must achieve competency across all performance criteria as detailed in each unit.  

  • Unit Code: OCBC01, Unit Title: - Perform safe operation of a crane in the building and construction industry (core unit)
  • Unit Code: MOB01, attached to Unit Title: Safe operation of a mobile crane (elective)
  • Unit Code: TOW02, attached to Unit Title: Safe operation of a tower crane (elective)
  • Unit Code: GAN0, attached to Unit Title: Safe operation of a gantry crane (elective)
  • Unit Code: SEL04, attached to Unit Title: Safe operation of a self erecting crane (elective)
  • Unit Code: END05, attached to Unit Title: Safe use and operation of specific types, capacities and models of cranes (elective)

In partial completion of the course, 30275QLD Course in Crane Operations (Building and Construction), the participant can exit after successfully completing any of the units - OCBC01, MOB01, TOW02, GAN03, SEL04, END05 and be issued a Statement of Attainment for the particular unit or units completed.

 
Assessment:

Participants will be required to complete a written and practical examination to be deemed competent.
