Definition of Elevated Working Platform (EWP):
An elevating work platform means a telescoping, scissor or articulating device or any combination thereof used to position personnel, equipment and materials at work locations, and to provide a working area for persons elevated by and working from the platform.
Course Objective:
This course is designed to provide trainees with the structured training component that, in conjunction with sufficient verifiable practical experience, will prepare students for assessment in the prescribed occupation of Dogging (license code DG).
Course Prerequisite:
Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions and must be at least 18 years of age.
Course Content:
16 hours (including a minimum of 4 hours practical training) will cover:
• The planning and preparation of work necessary to perform tasks associated with elevated working platforms;
• The assessment and control, in the correct priority, of all occupational health and safety issues associated with elevated working platforms;
• All necessary pre and post operational checks and procedures;
• Understanding all relevant obligations, requirements and responsibilities, as well as concepts of a duty of care, associated with elevated working platforms;
• The ability to carry out work safely, efficiently and productively up to and above 11 meters in height in accordance with all relevant standards and legislation;
• Emergency decent procedures;
• The selection, inspection, use, maintenance and appropriate repair and alteration of elevated work platforms and associated equipment including safety harnesses and lanyards.
The 16 hours will also include the completion of the theory assessment only; no practical assessment.
Assessment:
Participants will be required to successfully complete a written and practical examination to be deemed competent.
This will be conducted over approximately 8 hours and consist of:
• A theory examination consisting of 126 questions;
• A written assignment consisting of 5 tasks;
• A performance test consisting of 7 practical exercises
A performance test will be carried out only after 20 hours of practical, on the job, experience under the supervision of a licensed person has been completed and recorded. This experience must be completed in line with a training plan which has been developed between the employer and trainee.
Each of the three (3) assessments is “closed book” and has a 100% pass mark.
