Course Objective:

The training program being offered was accredited by the Department of Industrial Relations Safety Department and it is called up in legislation as the induction program that must be completed before commencing construction work. Training provided will cover the following areas:

  • Legislative requirements and responsibilities
  • Basic concepts of workplace health and safety plans and work method statements
  • Physical building and construction hazards
  • Basic risk management concepts including hazard identification, assessment of risks, control of risks and evaluation of control measures
  • Hierarchy of controls (eliminate, substitute, redesign, isolate, administrate and the use of personal protective equipment).
  • Emergency procedures

Course Prerequisite:

Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions.

Course Content: Nominal Hours - 4.
 
This course consists of one unit and participants must achieve competency across all performance criteria as detailed in Unit Code; GSIBC001 attached to Unit Title; Abide by and apply basic Health and Safety requirements in the building and construction industry.

 
Assessment:

Participants will be required to complete both a written examination and a practical risk assessment on risk management to be deemed competent.

Note:

Participants must provide photo identification to receive their “Blue Card”.
