Course Objective:

The aim of this training product is to provide theory training in the following areas:

  • Advise relevant parties about the overall state of health and safety at the workplace
  • Establish appropriate educational programs in workplace health and safety
  • Help inspectors in the performance of the inspectors duties
  • Determine workplace hazards and risks
  • Assess workplace hazards and risks
  • Determine measures to manage exposure to identified hazards and risks
  • Implement control measures
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of the control measures
  • Undertake a health and safety audit of the workplace
  • Develop a workplace health and safety plan
  • Apply the statutory and minimum workplace health and safety requirements and principles relating to incident investigation
  • Investigate incidents
  • Evaluate and analyse workplace incidents
  • Prevent re-occurrence of workplace incidents
  • Ensure that relevant parties are aware of procedures for dealing with emergency situations
  • Ensure relevant parties are aware of their first aid requirements.

Course Prerequisite:

Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions. Participants are required to have had experience in the building and construction industry. Successful completion (including issuing of results) of WHSO/01/02/03 Core modules before WHSO/04 can be applied for.
 
Course Content: Nominal Hours - 72.
 
This course consists of four units (3 units are covered in stage one, 1 unit in stage two) and participants must achieve competency across all performance criteria as detailed in each unit.
Stage one (40 hours) is the core unit and combines three units;
Unit Code; WHSO/01, attached to Unit Title; Provide Advice on Workplace Health and Safety
Unit Code; WHSO/02, attached to Unit Title; Manage Workplace Incidents
Unit Code; WHSO/03, attached to Unit Title; Manage Health and Safety Hazards and Risks in the Workplace.  - (Stage one must be completed successfully before the student can apply to do stage two).

Stage two (32 hours) is an elective;
Unit Code; WHSO/04 “Building and Construction” attached to Unit Title; Manage Health and Safety in the Construction Workplace
 
Assessment:

Participants will be required to complete two assignments and four written examination to be deemed competent.
