Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Representatives

Course Objective:
This course is designed to give those who have been elected as Workplace Health and Safety Representatives (WHSR’s) or members of a Health and Safety Committee, or those interested in performing these roles, the skills and knowledge to perform these roles. This course satisfies the requirements of training in the QLD Workplace Health and Safety Act (1995) for WHSR’s.
Course Prerequisite:
Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions.
Course Content
Over 24 hours the course will assist students in learning how to:
• Identify OHS information relevant to workplace or area of representation;
• Apply OHS information to issues in the area of representation;
• Identify workplace hazards and risks;
• Assess workplace hazards and risks;
• Identify and recommend control measures to manage exposure and risks;
• Represent workers within workplace health and safety consultation arrangements;
• Prepare and present reports; and,
• Review circumstances surrounding workplace incidents.
Assessment:
To be deemed competent in the three units:
1. WHSR01A: Identify and apply relevant workplace health and safety information
2. WHSR02A: Identify hazards and control risks in the workplace
3. WHSR03A: Represent workers in workplace health and safety consultation mechanisms
Participants will be required to successfully complete 2 written examinations and an in-class workbook. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a statement of attainment for Course in Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Representatives.
