Course Objective:

The aim of this training product is to provide information and knowledge of the basic principles of safe work at heights. The training program provides theory and practical training in the following areas:

  • Plan and prepare to perform work at height operations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Apply legislation and obligation procedures.
  • Assess all health and safety issues associated with work at height and associated equipment.
  • Control in the correct priority all occupational health and safety issues.
  • Apply procedures associated with identifying hazards
  • Apply basic risk management concepts including the identification, assessment, control and evaluation of control measures.
  • Understand the hierarchy of controls (eliminate, substitute, isolate, administrate and personal protective equipment).
  • Understand all relevant obligations, requirements and responsibilities associated with working at height.
  • Inspect to determine safe usage of all necessary equipment.
  • Apply the procedures for rescue in the event of a fall from a building or construction site or emergency situation.

Course Prerequisite:

Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions. The participant needs to be able to work at height and have had previous experience on a building site.

Course Content: 8/16 Hours.
 
This course consists of one unit and participants must achieve competency across all performance criteria as detailed in Unit Code WAH001 attached to Unit Title: Work Safely at Height in Building and Construction
 
Assessment:

Participants will be required to complete a written and practical examination to be deemed competent.
