Course Objective:

This short course provides participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding of how to control traffic in a safe and effective manner in accordance with the procedures set out by the Main Roads Department.

Course Prerequisite:

Given the technical nature of this program participants are required to be able to speak and write English.
Participants need must have an Australian vehicle license for a period of at least 12 months within the last 5 years.
A disqualifying offence may not allow the student to obtain a Traffic Controller license from the Main Roads Department.

Course Content: 5 Hours

- Traffic control selection
- Requirements for the controller
- Powers to control the traffic
- Vehicle stopping characteristics
- Positioning for the controller
- Traffic control procedures
- Changing conditions
- Communication skills
- Night operations
- Procedures for emergency vehicles

Assessment:

The assessment for this course consists of both practical and theory assessment. The theory assessment consists of 20 multiple choice questions and the practical demonstration is of safe and effective traffic flow.
