Course Objective:

The aim of this training product is to provide theory and practical training in the following areas:

  • The planning and preparation necessary to the perform work associated with first aid.
  • The assessment of all health and safety issues associated with first aid
  • Understanding all relevant obligations, requirements and responsibilities as well as concepts of a duty of care associated with first aid.
  • Identify procedures associated with responding to emergencies.
  • Understand the relevance of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
  • Identify and understand management of all life threatening conditions.
  • Understand the principles of first aid
  • Perform first aid procedures associated with cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, medical emergencies and trauma.
  • Perform first aid procedures associated with cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation.
  • Perform first aid procedures associated with cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and administration of oxygen.

Course Prerequisite:

Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions and must be at least 14 years of age. This course does consist of co-requisites when completing Senior First Aid. Those co-requisite units include HLTFA1A Apply Basic First Aid, IFA02 Apply Intermediate First Aid and CPR01 Apply Cardio-pulmonaryResuscitation. The pre-requisite for the participant completing either Defibrillation and/or Oxygen is CPR01 Apply Cardio-pulmonaryResuscitation.

 
Course Content: 16 Hours or 8 hours and a workbook.
 
This course consists of five units and participants must achieve competency across all performance criteria as detailed in each unit to gain attainment for 30244QLD Workplace First Aid (incorporating Senior First Aid):

  • Unit Code; HLTFA1A, attached to Unit Title; Apply Basic First Aid (6 hours)
  • Unit Code; IFA02 attached to Unit Title; Apply Intermediate First Aid (8 hours)
  • Unit Code; CPR01 attached to Unit Title; Apply Cardio-pulmonaryResuscitation (4 hours)
  • Unit Code; CPRD03 attached to Unit Title; Apply Defibrillation (3 hours)                   
  • Unit Code; CPRO04 attached to Unit Title; Apply Oxygen Therapy (3 hours)

The participant can also complete any of the above units separately and be issued a Statement of Attainment for the particular unit or units completed.

Assessment:

Participants will be required to complete a written and practical examination to be deemed competent.
