As of 1 January 2007, construction workers who have completed General Induction (Construction Safety) Training in Qld will meet the requirements of the Safety Construction Industry Induction Training Agreement for the Foundation for Safety Construction Industry Induction Training Agreement (Red Card) issued in Victoria and the WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate for the Construction Industry issued in New South Wales.

Late last year, the Council for the Australian Federation agreed to the harmonisation of worker's compensation and occupational health and safety arrangements. As part of this process, an agreement was reached between Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria for the mutual recognition of training for general safety induction for Construction Work. Mutual recognition is a system that allows those with qualifications to work across state lines with each participating state recognizing the worker's qualification issued by the other member states. (Persons should complete the state specific course were they are ordinarily resident).

An Additional Note: It is up to the discretion of the worksite that you are about to work on as to whether they will accept induction cards issued in other states. It is best to check with your project manager or foreman prior to commencing work on the site as to whether they will accept your induction card. If not, you could still need to complete a General Induction (Blue Card) training course for Queensland worksites.
