New Driver Simulators
The Construction Skills Training Centre (CSTC) is excited to announce the arrival of four training simulators sponsored by the Building and Construction Industry Training Fund (BCITF) Queensland.
The simulators will be housed in purpose built rooms in our Brisbane and Rockhampton training centres and signal a significant step forward in the training options for the general construction and civil construction industries.
As well as being housed at our two training centres, the simulators will also be utilised from time to time by the BCITF (Qld) at trade fairs and careers expos across Queensland; so keep an eye out if you are visiting any trade fairs and careers expos in the near future for the bright yellow simulators.
The training simulators currently have five programs covering; operation of a tower crane, operation of an excavator, operation of a slew and non-slew crane and operation of a self-erector tower crane with further plant operator software imminent including the likes of dozer, skidsteer (bobcat), grader, front end loader among others. Each of the simulator training programs has a range of proficiency levels and exercises and each are as close as you could get to operating the ‘real’ machine.
The simulators will offer both existing workers and trainees interested in these fields an opportunity to gain “saddle time” in a safe environment, free from the physical and financial risks associated with the operation of the actual machine in the workplace whilst under the instruction and guidance of highly experienced CSTC operator trainers and assessors.
The opportunities for utilisation for the industry are exciting in all respects! Imagine not having to tie up precious machine running time in training new or retraining existing staff and determining proficiency levels of new recruits. The benefits for the industry extend well beyond future operators with employers able to access computer print outs of existing drivers’ performance in particular tasks. This offers employers an opportunity to set benchmarks for their existing staff and to stipulate the benchmarks for new operators recruited to their company.
If you are interested in utilising the new simulators or would just like to take a look, please contact either the Brisbane or Rockhampton offices of the CSTC.
